| This study on pole trawling was done with the goal of giving some clarification about a theoretically prohibited fishing technique that is little used in France. However, fishermen from some countries routinely practice pole trawling authorised at the European level, which poses a few problems from the point of view of French regulations, and it is on an exempt basis that this technique is used by some boats in Brittany and Normandy, but the only large fleet that is practising pole trawling intensively by using boat booms is based in Dunkerque's harbour.
